Flutists of ALL ages with 1 or more years of playing experience are invited to join! The music is an intermediate level, and simplified parts are available for beginners or anyone who wants them. They'll be performing a wonderful variety of works for solo flute, flute & piano, and flute trio (including piccolo and alto flute). We can't recommend enough that you attend because WOW, they sound incredible!! Also, a special shoutout to Dr. Alison Hsieh, who sounds phenomenal on piano, and Jakelynne Vickery who is rocking the alto flute in Birds by Beeftink! In our All-Region clinic today, we hit all the common traps to avoid in the etudes, lightning fast warm-ups, practice strategies for finger technique and counting, the many benefits of scales (especially slurred scales), and some resources like the rhythm tree and circle of fifths! We are so excited to welcome Dr. Whitney Farris O' We are so excited to welcome Dr. Whitney Farris O'Neal next week! All are welcome - her guest artist recital and masterclass are both free & open to the public! ๐ŸŽต Recital: Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5 pm - Recital Hall ๐ŸŽต Masterclass: Friday, Nov. 8 at 12:30 pm - Recital Hall Dr. O'Neal is a โœจ Jonesboro native & A-State Alumni โœจ who is Department Chair and Associate Professor of Flute at the University of North Alabama and she studied with Professor Emeritus, Joe Bonner. Can't attend in person? Her recital will be livestreamed on the A-State Flute Studio's facebook page! Link in bio. More about Dr. O'Neal: While attending Arkansas State University, she performed with the Delta Symphony Orchestra, Arkansas State University Orchestra, and performed as a featured soloist with the Arkansas State University Wind Ensemble. In 2009, 2011, and 2012 she was selected to perform in the National Flute Associationโ€™s Professional Flute Choir at conventions in New York City, Charlotte, NC, and Las Vegas. Oโ€™Neal was also selected as a winner in the Convention Performers Competition in 2012 and performed in recital at the NFA convention. Oโ€™Neal made her international debut in 2015 with recitals in Toledo, Spain. Inspired by her love of chamber music, O'Neal is a founding member of Trio Leo with Meghan Merciers (clarinet) and Karen Cantrell (piano). In February 2017, Trio Leo performed Valerie Coleman's Portraits of Langston which was sponsored by the UNA Department of History in honor of Black History Month. Dr. O'Neal holds a Bachelor of Music Education with University Honors from Arkansas State University and Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in flute performance with a secondary emphasis in musicology from the University of Alabama. Here are some other October highlights: ๐ŸŽƒ The A-State Open was incredible!! ๐Ÿ–ค Dr. Hoeckley's Musical Metamorphosis recital ๐ŸŽถ ๐ŸŽƒ Terrific Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Winds concert ๐Ÿ–ค Excellent performances in Flute Studio by Molly, Jacob, Isabella, Jasmine, and Eren ๐ŸŽƒ Merry Minstrels performed at the Red Wolf Renaissance Fair ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿ–ค Alumni Lynlie Simpson visited to share her experience teaching and performing ๐ŸŽƒ Red Wolves won vs. Troy! Fun fact, their band is also The Sound (of the South) ๐Ÿ–ค Our first-ever October break where we got some sleep and caught up on things so we can stay strong in the last 6 weeks of classes! Wolves up!!! Let's finish the semester strong!
